Our Extensive History

Founded in 1996 by John Llewellyn, Llewellyn’s Construction started out as a small “dozer” company with most of the emphasis centered towards catering to the residential consumer and their basic land clearing and excavation needs. Fortunately, it did not take long for Llewellyn’s Construction to take off and become a trusted authority and leader in all phases of earth work for Montgomery, Harris and the surrounding counties. As each project’s scope of work expanded, so did their dynamics. John and his ever growing team of experts embraced the challenges associated with expanding pre-conceived boundaries and testing skill levels to constantly produce bigger and grander finished projects that far exceeded the customer’s expectations. From day one, John took great pride in creating anything the customer could imagine.

Beyond Residential

Llewellyn’s Construction “bulldozed” into the new millennium with sound opportunities and an aggressive strategy to broaden and re-define the company’s focus and direction. In 2003, Llewellyn’s Construction incorporated and along with the company’s restructuring, a new philosophy emerged. The only way to grow was to diversify. Residential was our “bread and butter,” but it was time to take our knowledge and skill set to another level. This meant integrating the commercial, industrial and farm/ranch sectors into the company’s ideology. This proved to be a natural complement and opened the doors to several larger projects. Even with the complexity of the company successfully crossing over to the other venues, John never forgot that the foundation of his company was entrenched in the residential sector. In fact, the residential division provided several impressive projects as well, including a 5 acre, 52’ deep pond with a raised 21’ high house pad that encompasses over 600 S.F. of living area on the first floor alone.

Extreme Makeover Home Edition

Through the years, there have been many accomplishments that Llewellyn’s Construction Inc. is proud to recognize, but none compare to the honor bestowed upon John and our team in January 2006. The ABC TV series EXTREME MAKEOVER HOME EDITION, in conjunction with Royce Homes, extended Llewellyn’s Construction Inc. an invitation to participate in their philanthropic project located in Rosenberg, TX. To have the opportunity to do what we do best for such a humanitarian cause was both a privilege and a life changing experience which has positively affected all who were involved.

Our community means so much to everyone associated with Llewellyn’s Construction Inc. and we try to give back accordingly. However, living in Southeast Texas has put our resources and resourcefulness to the test a time or two, to say the least.

Two disasters stand out and on both occasions, we were there to help our neighbors and strangers alike band together to conquer what Mother Nature and the elements dished out. Hurricane Ike showed us all the power and damage that comes along with a class 4 hurricane, when you are its target. The rain and wind caused so much damage that most of Southeast Texas was without power for an average of three weeks. We helped to remove the debris left behind and start the process of rebuilding.

The other disaster to hit our community came during the summer of 2012. Texas was hit with one of the worst droughts recorded in history. This was the opposite of Hurricane Ike and all the rain; we were looking at the possibility of a second dust bowl. Ponds were dried up, hay was being shipped in from Nebraska at three times the normal cost, and our livestock were paying the price.

In the Face of Disaster

Then it got worse. A spark from a barbeque pit started a wildfire that burned hundreds of thousands of acres, spanning across several counties. With no rain in sight and high winds, our entire way of life was being threatened. John volunteered his company’s equipment and labor to help get this massive fire under control. Our team led the way, with three forestry department dozers staggered behind, on a track around the approaching fire and cut out a firewall that finally held the fire back. This was the turning point. Because the fire could not jump the firewall, hundreds of brave volunteer firefighters were able to contain the fire and prevent any further damage.

Today, more than ever, our focus is on the environment and saving our natural resources. At Llewellyn’s Construction Inc. we take this issue seriously. We are constantly upgrading and modifying our equipment to keep the fleet as energy-efficient and environmentally friendly as possible.

John and his team have extensive knowledge and experience with erosion control, hydro-mulching, demolition and/or debris disposal and other related issues including LEED. Please refer to our environmental section for more information related to these topics.
